Sunday Music: Les Surfaros

Isn't France wonderful? In what other country could a group of adorable Malagasy teenagers become pop music phenoms? Well ok...maybe Japan. Anyway, enjoy the tiny, melodious Surfaros as they sing Sur Garçon, with the choreographic accompaniment of three rhythm-impaired French people.

Hey cuz...I've faithfully read your blog and have learned a lot from it. I'm glad to hear encouraging news..now on to Sunday music: I think the melody is a ripoff of a tune by the Orlons from the year 1962 "Don't hang up". From what Tim Corwin (Ohio Express) tells me..his band is Hot in Germany now..Go Figure Bubblegum?..whoda thunk? J

Starting around 1:04, i'm getting a colonial French Indochina vibe that makes me want to run out to Le Colonial for some Franco-Nam fusion cuisine. C'est la garre.

I dunno middle...I thought it was a metaphor for the futility of colonial rule. Sure, giant awkward French people get to wear leotards, fall in love, and tie the knot...BEHIND a piece of frosted glass. The mere fact that the champagne was served in the wrong kind of glass is clearly swipe at European French culture. But, enjoy those spring rolls..mmmm.
